Though legendary for gold mining, Yukon is blessed with world-class mineral deposits and many rich areas remain undiscovered.
Yukon is a vast land with unexplored and untapped potential, offering exciting new opportunities and a competitive investment climate. Yukon’s government, in cooperation with its private sector partners, is actively marketing its abundant mineral wealth to world markets.  Yukon controls and administers its natural resources.  Decisions about mining, oil and gas, lands, forests and water are made by Yukoners.

Our Rich Resource

With nearly two billion years of geological history, Yukon boasts over 80 defined deposits of copper, lead, tungsten, zinc and silver. Northeastern Yukon is also home to one of the world’s largest iron ore deposits. In addition, several important occurrences of asbestos, barite, molybdenum, nickel, uranium and coal have been discovered. Emerald and diamond potentials also exist. And after all these years, Yukon still produces placer gold.

Low Taxes & Incentives

Yukon has no government debt, no territorial sales tax and a highly competitive taxation regime. Comprehensive support is available through a wide range of programs including:

Yukon Mining Incentives Program – designed to promote and enhance mineral prospecting, exploration and development activities by providing a portion of the risk capital required to locate and explore mineral deposits.

Fuel Tax Exemption – for off –road commercial purposes.

Strategic Industries Development Fund (SIDF) – Yukon Economic Development has a number of programs including the SIDF, designed to support the development of strategic industries such as mining.

The Yukon Geological Survey

The Yukon Geological Survey is committed to the development of a modern geoscience database of mineral deposits in the Yukon Territory. Yukon Geological Survey staff carry out regional bedrock mapping projects, mineral deposit studies, mineral assessments and geochemical, geophysical and environmental studies. An extensive list of publications, including mineral deposit maps and both territorial and federal mining reports, is available through the Yukon Geological Survey website at www.geology.gov.yk.ca.

Far From Remote

Yukon is a transportation corridor between Alaska, southern Canada and the rest of North America. Over 4,700 kilometres of all weather roads link Yukon communities with Alberta, B.C. and Alaska. Our year-round highway system can accommodate loads up to 77,000 kg. Our proximity to Asia presents enormous opportunities for Yukon businesses and industry, and you can be part of this.

Experts in Northern Construction

The Yukon’s construction industry has a long history of working for natural resource companies. Our companies have completed many projects in the Canadian north involving difficult terrain, including areas with permafrost, mountains and thick forests. The development of new standards for foundations, walls and ventilation systems has Yukon companies leading the way in northern construction expertise.
