Canada’s Yukon is known among filmmakers for its reliable snow locations, but it offers much more. You’ll find Yukon to be adaptable, diverse and full of character. Yukon has roadside snow as early as late September and there is snow on rooftops around the third week of October. Its ice fields – the largest non-polar glaciers in the world – have been providing reliable, year-round snow for the past 10,000 years. Science fiction landscapes, western towns (including a still-running steam train on a narrow gauge railroad), rugged wilderness for adventure films, mountain adventures in the St. Elias Mountains (North America’s answer to the Himalayas) and more. As a bonus, Yukon enjoys near 24-hour daylight in the summer, creating a lasting magic hour where directors of photography have a hard time calling it quits at the end of the day.
Filmmakers regularly comment on the high quality and abilities of Yukon crew members. From casting directors to production managers, from second camera to make-up personnel, you can fill a surprising number of positions on your crew right here.
